More than 30 places to explore
From the Great Tree to Rainforest Gully, Gum Tree Ridge, the Lagoon and the Beach, each with its own birds, plants and weather, and more to go inside: burrows, hollows and a giant fig.
A 3D open world on Yugambeh Country
Not flashcards: a whole world. Fly as Goomp Goomp across more than forty places, help twenty-seven birds remember who they are, and learn Yugambeh by hearing it, saying it and using it, until it stays.
Every part of Goomp Goomp Country is built around Yugambeh. The birds, the jobs, the places and the story all carry the language, and underneath them the game keeps track of every word each player knows, and brings it back at just the right time.
New words arrive a few at a time from the birds you help, never more than you can keep.
Hear words spoken by a Yugambeh speaker, then tap the microphone and say them yourself.
The birds start speaking your words in Yugambeh, and English fades. Build sentences with the words you know.
Words come back to practise: with English first, then heard only, then typed from memory.
Practice returns after days, weeks and months. Leave a word too long and wangal, the Forgetting, comes for it.
Rainforest gullies, gum-tree ridges, lagoons, beaches and paddocks, each with its own birds, animals, plants and light. Here are a few of them.

Across Country, the birds have lost their names and their colours, and they have turned grey. Goomp Goomp, the Southern Boobook Owl, sets out from his Great Tree to help them remember.
Every bird has jobs for you: find something, visit somewhere, clear away the sandflies. Help a bird and it remembers its name and colours, and you learn its words. Help enough and you can even fly as that bird.
An open world that grows with the player, built around the Yugambeh language from the ground up.
From the Great Tree to Rainforest Gully, Gum Tree Ridge, the Lagoon and the Beach, each with its own birds, plants and weather, and more to go inside: burrows, hollows and a giant fig.
Every bird you help can be flown, each with its own power: the eagle soars highest, others float on water, run fast or slip past the sandflies. Tap to take off, Goomp Goomp holds his height, and a Land button brings him down.
Fetch, visit and clear jobs from every bird. Learn the peck, the whirlwind and the tail whack to see off sandfly swarms, and face jinir-jinir in a final battle in three parts.
Goomp Goomp’s tree hollow, in honey wood, grows into rooms to fill with keepsakes from your travels, each named in Yugambeh, and your Book, Remember and Pouch close at hand.

Gather bush food, spear fish and follow carved stones on treasure trails, learning the words for each along the way.

Gather natural pigments around Country, like gudjing (red ochre) and dalang (white clay), and paint Goomp Goomp’s feathers.

Catch word-stars by their meaning, their sound or their Gibamyeri carving, and build a constellation in the shape of your bird. No timer, no lives.
When you help a bird, the words you taught it spiral in and its colours flood back from head to tail.
Birds speak English at first. As you learn each word, it switches into Yugambeh in their speech, so the language grows around you.
Yugambeh words recorded by a Yugambeh speaker and linguist, so children hear them said properly. More are added as they are recorded.
Tap the microphone beside a new word, say it, then hear yourself next to a Yugambeh speaker.

New words come a few each day, and only while the ones you already know are kept up. Gentle, Normal and Tough each set their own pace.
As a word settles in, you hear it without seeing it, then type it yourself. Practice comes back after days, weeks and months, so the words stay.
Put Yugambeh words in order to build real sentences, using only the words you already know.
Practise the Gibamyeri script at a tree beside the Great Tree: find the pieces, read a word, write one by its syllables.

Leave your words too long and the colour drains from the world. Glowing violet wisps come looking for Goomp Goomp, each one a word slipping away. Catch them and name them to bring the colour back.
Grow through the same five stages as our reading levels, with Fly Home branch-hopping practice built in.
Tap through the stages to see how a bird’s speech changes as a player learns. Words come back at just the right time, so they stick.
A narrator reads the way through the first night, one step at a time, and never talks over the birds. Garang speaks his own lines, and the opening story is read aloud.

One Graphics setting, from Very Low for older phones and school laptops up to Ultra for strong computers. The game chooses for you, and you can change it any time.
More than thirty places linked by paths through Yugambeh Country, each with its own birds and animals, and more to go inside: burrows, hollows and a giant fig. Here are some of them; tap a place to send Goomp Goomp there.
Remember the little booklet that came with a new game? Goomp Goomp Country has one too. Twenty-eight pages of the story, the characters, the controls, the final battle, why words come back, how words move into Yugambeh, the places of Country and the words to know, with pictures from the game.
