Privacy policy

How we collect, use, store and protect personal information, including children’s information in Goomp Goomp Country©.

Last updated: 29 October 2026 · Goomp Goomp Books, ABN 82 423 130 137

In short: students join with a first name or nickname only; information is stored in Australia; there is no advertising, chat or in-game purchasing; we never sell personal information; and schools can delete their information at any time. Schools can download our Privacy and Consent Pack.

Who we are

Goomp Goomp Books publishes Yugambeh language books and the Goomp Goomp Country game and teacher’s panel. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect, and why

WhoWhat and why
StudentsA first name or nickname, their class, and their learning progress in the game, so the game remembers their progress and their teacher can see how they are learning. Teachers may add grades, report comments, private notes and learning adjustments, which only teachers of the class can see.
TeachersName, school email address, school and classes, to sign in, manage classes and send optional emails.
Families and individualsName, email address and the players they create, to run accounts and home subscriptions. For Community Access, the family connection the applicant describes, used only to confirm eligibility.
PurchasersName, email, billing and delivery details, to process orders. Card payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store card numbers.
Website visitorsPages visited, the referring page, country, state and town, and device type, counted without cookies and without storing internet (IP) addresses, so no visitor can be identified. To count returning visitors, the browser keeps a simple ‘visited before’ flag, which is never linked to a person.

We do not collect students’ surnames, email addresses, birthdays, photos or locations. The game never uses the camera.

Speaking practice and the microphone

The game uses the microphone only for Say it speaking practice, and only when the player taps the microphone button. Recordings stay on the device, unless a school class’s teacher has turned on saving speaking for that class (it is off by default). Then each recording is stored for that class, privately, as evidence for assessment, and the student is told “Your teacher can hear what you record”. Family accounts and the free trial never send recordings. Saved recordings are kept with the class: they are deleted when the student or class is deleted, and no later than 12 months after the end of the school year.

The free trial

Anyone can try the game free for 14 days on one device, with just a first name. Nothing is sent to us during the trial: the name and progress stay on the device. If the player later creates an account, they can choose to bring that progress with them.

How we use it

Only to provide our books, game, teacher’s panel and support; to process orders; to send emails people have asked for; and to improve our services. We do not use personal information for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Where it is stored, and who helps us

Student, teacher and family information is stored with Amazon Web Services in Sydney, Australia. Amazon CloudFront delivers our website files. Stripe processes payments and may process payment information outside Australia. Google supplies the typefaces on our website and receives a visitor’s internet address when they load.

Children

Children use Goomp Goomp Country through their school (with a class code) or through a parent or carer’s account. Schools are responsible for obtaining consent from families, and our Privacy and Consent Pack includes a letter and consent form for this.

Keeping it safe

All connections are encrypted, stored information is encrypted, passwords are managed by Amazon Cognito and never seen by us, teacher accounts require a school email address, and only a small number of our staff can access our systems.
